About the Neighborhood

Millcreek was built in the late 1970s. At that time Lakeland Drive had only been a paved two-land highway for a short time and there were few businesses east of the Pearl River on what would become Lakeland Drive. The site developer and builder was Robert (Bob) Stewart. Bob was not only the founder of the neighborhood but, he was also a lifelong resident. For many years Bob could be seen walking his dog around the neighborhood. He was always happy to stop and chat about whatever was up for discussion. The conversations often lead to a history lesson about the neighborhood and it's surrounding areas.

He was clearly a visionary when it came to selection of the site for Millcreek. At the time it was far from the city of Jackson. There was but a single traffic light east of the Pearl River bridge and the scenery consisted mostly of cow pastures. He did a very good job of anticipating the growth pathway on the eastern side of Jackson. The homes in Millcreek were typically a little larger and nicer than those in adjacent neighborhoods at the time and were targeted at upper middle class buyers. The location paired with the attractiveness of the neighborhood lead to a rapid development and several expansions of the original Millcreek Phase I.
The neighborhood is now adjacent to a rapidly developing area with a thriving economy. There are quite a few more traffic lights on Lakeland and Lakeland has grown from a quite two-lane road to a busy six-lane highway surrounded by businesses, shopping areas and recreational areas. There is a highly rated public school located less than 5 minutes away. Walmart is less than a mile. Kroger is roughly a quarter mile. If you are a boater or fisherman, the 55,000 acre Ross Barnett Reservoir is a 5-10 minute drive. There are multiple walk-in medical clinics within 5 minutes. The University of Mississippi Medical Center has a multidisciplinary specialty clinic also within 5 minutes. Millcreek is virtually surrounded by amenities and recreational opportunities.
